Photo Not Available

This one's kind of a weird one. Since I've been doing some pics with some "close to home" themes, I've been trying to dig back into whatever other gruesome local stories there are around here. Well, during my older brother's senior year in high school there was a girl who skipped school on the day they were taking yearbook photos. A lot of kids used to do that, sort of as an "F - you" to the school and to all the kids who really cared about having their pictures in the book. What would happen is they would have to organize a second yearbook photo day and those second sets of photos would be taken manually (as opposed to by the professional photographer) and they'd be taken like against a wall or something in normal street clothes (instead of dress shirts and ties, etc). So some of the 'cool' kids used to skip the first day and they'd all have these crappy yearbook photos (it actually was kinda funny). In any case, a bunch of the kids who skipped that day went to a carnival that night. This girl was on one of the rides that I guess wasn't quite put together right or something (I remember it being the octopus ride, but that might just be my mind filling in the blanks) and her hair got caught in the machinery. It literally ripped a huge section of her scalp clean off - hair, skin, and all. I wasn't there, but I remember all of the stories in school from the kids who were there. Supposedly everyone on the ride was covered in her blood and there was pandemonium. The scalp was not salvageable (it had gotten all wound up in some gears or something). She ended up missing most of the rest of the year but she was there at graduation wearing this huge bandaging all over her head. She was on crutches, too, I think because they had to use skin from her legs to fill in the missing skin on her head. The kind of ironic thing is that this girl really was very attractive and I remember that she used to pick on a lot of the nerdy and overweight girls in the school (I said ironic, not justified).

In the yearbook it was just a black box stating "Photo Not Available."
